Xiaomi Redmi 5A With 5.5. Inch HD Display, 2GB RAM And Snapdragon 425 SoC Spotted Online

Xiaomi has been teasing the launch of its next smartphones- Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5A for quite some time now. While the Redmi Note 5 will launch as the successor to Redmi Note 4, the Redmi Note 5A is said to be the smaller and cheaper version. Now, new details about the Redmi Note 5A have emerged online through China’s certification website TENAA. The listing reveals key specifications of the upcoming smartphone.

The Redmi Note 5A is codenamed Xiaomi MDT6, as per the listing. It is expected to feature a 5.5-inch HD display with a resolution of 1,280×720 pixels. Under the hood, we can expect a 1.4GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 SoC paired with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage.

On the software front, the smartphone is likely to run Android 7.1.1 Nougat out-of-the-box with Xiaomi’s MIUI 8 on top, which is surprising considering Xiaomi has already launched MIUI 9 last month. For photography, the smartphone is expected to sport a 13-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel selfie camera. It is said to be armed with a 3,000mAh battery.

Apart from that, the listing also reveals that the Xiaomi MDT6 might launch in black, rose gold, gold, white, blue, red, pink, gray, and silver color variants. The Redmi Note 5A has been tipped to measure 153×76.2×7.59mm and weigh 150 grams.

The images on TENAA are in line with previously leaked renders. The images show that the Redmi Note 5A will sports a metal unibody. At the back, there will be a single rear camera with an LED flash placed at the top left corner. The Xiaomi logo is placed at the bottom end with antenna lines running at the top and bottom of the smartphone. The power and volume rocker buttons are visible on the right side. At the bottom, there is a micro USB port while the 3.5 mm headphone jack sits on the top. As it will be a cheaper variant of the Redmi Note 5, it is said to skip the fingerprint scanner.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A is expected to be announced alongside the Redmi Note 5 series. Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 series will follow the Redmi Note 3 and Redmi Note 4. If previous launches are anything to go by, Xiaomi could even launch a few other variants of the Redmi Note 5 as well.

Meanwhile, the Redmi Note 5 is rumored to feature a 5.5-inch HD display. It will most likely be powered by a Snapdragon 630 chipset, while some rumors also point at Snapdragon 660 octa-core 64-bit SoC. The smartphone is expected to come in 32GB or 64GB internal storage variants with 2GB/3GB/4GB RAM options. In terms of camera, the smartphone will reportedly feature a 16-megapixel rear camera and a 13-megapixel selfie camera. The battery capacity will be around 3,790mAh. The Redmi Note 5 will come with a fingerprint scanner at the back.
