Earlier this month, Xiaomi announced a list of smartphones that will be upgraded to Android Nougat. Surprisingly, the list did not mention the company’s most popular smartphone in India, the Redmi Note 4. Xiaomi did roll out Android Nougat-based Developer Preview ROM for the smartphone, but there has been no word on when the official update will be released. Now, a banner on Flipkart mentions that Android Nougat update is in the pipeline and is “coming soon on your Redmi Note 4.”
As of now, the smartphone runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow out-of-the-box. BGRIndia has reached out to Xiaomi for confirmation, and yet to hear from the company. Back in May, IDC announced that Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 has overtaken Samsung Galaxy J2 to take the first spot in smartphone shipments in India. Since then, there is no looking back for Xiaomi.
To recap, Xiaomi has announced that they sold 250,000 Redmi Note 4 units in just 10 minutes setting a new record and sold more than 1 million units within 45 days during the initial days after the launch of the device. In the latest, the company has sold two million units in 120 days since its launch. The company continues to lead the market share in India. Recent Counterpoint Research also suggests that Xiaomi toppled Samsung in the best-seller slot for smartphone models in the under Rs 10,000 segment in the second quarter of 2017. The top two positions were grabbed by Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 with 7.2 percent and Redmi 4 with 4.5 percent market share, followed by Samsung Galaxy J2 at 4.3 percent.
While the company has been conducting the sale for its Redmi Note 4 smartphone every week, it is also trying hard to churn out maximum sale from its offline retails stores too. Talking about the Redmi Note 4, Xiaomi also announced that they have partnered offline retail stores like Sangeetha, Poorvika, Lot Mobile and BigC to sell Redmi Phones. Xiaomi’s offline presence also started with the launch of its first Mi Home in Bengaluru in May. Xiaomi plans to open more Mi Homes stores in India in the future which would add on to the growing sales of its devices, the Redmi Note 4 in particular.
Xiaomi’s India head Manu Kumar Jain recently said that the company aims to sell around 7 million units of the Redmi Note 4 this year. Riding high on the sales of the Redmi Note 4, Xiaomi hopes to become the smartphone company with the highest number of sales in India with three-five years.
Talking about the pricing, the most affordable 2GB RAM and 32GB internal storage variant are priced at Rs 9,999, while the 3GB RAM and 32GB storage variant will cost Rs 10,999. The 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage variant will set you back by Rs 12,999.
